Sept 1 1970: Mitsou is born in Loretteville, PQ as Mitsou Annie Marie Gélinas. 1973: JD Fortune of "Rockstar INXS" fame is born in Missisauga, ON, as Jason Dean Bennison. 1995: Stampeders released SWEET CITY WOMAN, which was really AGAINST THE GRAIN, complete with a few extras, on Collectables Records in the US. 2009: Social Code releases their third lp, ROCK N ROLL.
Sept 2 1993: Pearl Jam and Neil Young perform "Keep On Rockin' In The Free World" at the MTV Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Sept 3 1977: Max Webster's "High Class In Borrowed Shoes" peaks at #44. 1988: It's the end of an era, as Rik Emmett leaves Triumph following their show in Toronto's Kingswood Music Theatre. 1991: Rush releases ROLL THE BONES. 2003: Triumph's show at the US Festival is released on CD, 20 years after the performance.
Sept 4 1990: Rush releases CHRONICLES, their first 'best of' package. 1994: A star studded cast including Rush's Alex Lifeson, Tom Cochrane and Lawrence Gowan perform "All Along The Watchtower" at Toronto's Kumbaya Festival. 1996: White Wolf's ENDANGERED SPECIES lp is re-released on CD as a Japanese import, ten years since its original release, and slightly less than 10 years since it was deleted. 2003: The Undesirables rock Hugh\'s Room in Toronto. 2008: Bryan Adams performs a solo acoustic show to a sold-out audience at Toronto's The Carlu. 2009: Bryan Adams performs a concert at Edmonton's Telus Field.
Sept 5 1994: Blue Rodeo's FIVE DAYS IN JULY, the group's fifth consecutive platinum album in Canada, gets released Stateside after signing with Discovery Records. 1995: Blue Rodeo releases NOWHERE TO HERE 2003: Neil Young's film project, "Greendale," which accompanies his concept album of the same name, premieres at the Toronto Film Festival.
Sept 6 1995 Triumph re-releases CLASSICS in the US on CD through TML Entertainment. 2005: Hedley releases their first album, self-titled. It would go on to achieve double platinum status.
Sept 7 2004: Andy Creeggan releases his second solo album ANDIWORK 2. 2009: Mississippi Hippies make an appearance at the Kew Gardens in The Beaches in Toronto for the Beaches Lakefront Neighbourhood Association benefit. 2009: Bruce Guthro releases the NO FINAL DESTINATION album.
Sept 8 1958: Paul Anka embarks on his first tour of Southeast Asia. 1972: Neil Young becomes a daddy, when Carrie Snodgrass gives birth to Zeke, in San Francisco. 1987: Rush releases HOLD YOUR FIRE. 2003: Shania Twain wins best female artist, video, album and top-selling international album awards for UP! at the Canadian Country Music Awards in Toronto, Terri Clark is named Entertainer of the Year. 2008: The Trews release the single for "Man of Two Minds. 2009: Doc Walker releases GO, their fifth studio lp.
Sept 9 1957: Paul Anka's "Diana" peaks at the top of Billboard's charts. 1982: Rush releases SIGNALS. 2000: Rush drum-god Neal Peart marries for the second time, tying the knot with photographer Carrie Nuttall in a private ceremony in Montecito, Calif.
2003: Gordon Lightfoot undergoes an emergency stomach operation in a Toronto hospital. He would eventually recover. 2007: Neil Young is among the performers at New York's first Farm Aid relief concert on Randall's Island.

Sept 11 1974: England's Wembley Stadium, capacity of 80,000, is filled to the crumpets, as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Joni Mitchell, and The Band play. 1986: Triumph releases SPORT OF KINGS. 1987: Lorne Greene, CBC broadcaster that became Ben Cartwright on "Bonanza" and Cmdr. Adama on "Battlestar Galactica," and singer who scored a No. 1 hit with "Ringo" in 1964, dies of cardiac arrest while undergoing surgery for a perforated ulcer. 2007: Brian Cotteril, longtime drummer for Jimi B and Abraham's Children passes away when he succumbs to a second bout of cancer.
Sept 12 1989: Jane Siberry releases the album BOUND BY THE BEAUTY. 2000: Barenaked Ladies release MAROON.
2006: Barenaked Ladies release BARENAKED LADIES ARE ME. 2009: Blue Rodeo is inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in a ceremony in Toronto.
Sept 13 1949: Simon Caine & The Catch, Luke & The Apostles and Livingstone's Journey bass player Dennis Pendrith is born in Toronto. 1969: Toronto's Varsity Stadium hosts The Rock n Roll Revival. Among the featured acts is the debut of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band, which also featured Eric Clapton. 1975: The Guess Who play Montreal for the supposed last time, when Burton Cummings leaves the group unannounced following the show. They reformed for the first of several times eight years later for a series of dates and 3 new singles, spawning a live video and CD. 1999: Shania Twain takes home four doorstops during the Canadian Country Music Awards, including Female Artist of the Year. 2001: Author John Einarson releases the authorized biography of Randy Bahman, entitled "Takin' Care of Business." 2005: Colin James releases the LIMELIGHT lp.
2006: ALL AROUND US by A Foot In Cold Water, originally released in '74, and A SECOND FOOT IN COLD WATER from '73 are re-released on CD.

Sept 15 1960: Mitch Dorge, drummer with Crash Test Dummies is born. 1995: Ronnie Hawkins launches his video and CD LET IT ROCK with a concert at the Canadian Embassy Theatre in Washington, DC. Hawkins is presented a gold album for 50,000 sales in Canada, and Jeff Healey is a special guest at the show. 1998: The Band's tenth and final studio album, JUBILATION is released on the River North label. Original members Levon Helm, Rick Danko and Garth Hudson are joined by friends Eric Clapton and John Hiatt for the recording.
Sept 16 2000: Sons of Maxwell pack a 600 person-capacity club in Ottawa.
Sept 17 2002: Theory of a Deadman release their self-titled debut.
Sept 18 2004: Neil Young is among the performers during the 19th edition of Farm Aid in Illinois. 2005: Neil Young is among the performers during the 20th edition of Farm Aid in Tinley Park, Illinois. 2009: Leonard Cohen collapses on stage during a performace in Valencia, Spain. He's released from hospital the next day.
Sept 19 1951: Daniel Lanois is born in Hull, QB. 1957: David Brisebois, one time bassist/singer for Stonehenge which evolves into One Horse Blue is born in Edmonton. 1970: Neil Young's "After The Goldrush" enters the singles charts at #6. 1979: Anne Murray performs at NY's Carnegie Hall for the first time. 1981: Triumph releases ALLIED FORCES. 1997: Lee Aaron re-releases METAL QUEEN. 2000: The Guess Who share the stage with Lenny Kravitz at the Much Music Video awards in Toronto, doing "American Woman". Kravitz had recorded the tune for the soundtrack to the Austin Powers - The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack. 2001: BTO release GREATEST AND LATEST on CD. Included is their version of "House of The Rising Sun," as well as classic and newer hits. 2006: GET WHAT YOU GIVE, Sass Jordan's new lp, and the first release for the new Horizon Recordings, is released.
Sept 20 1983: OLD WAYS, Neil Young's straightforward no-nonsense country-flavored album is released. 2005: Another reality TV show is gone, as INXS select Nova Scotia-native JD Fortune as their new frontman in "Rock Star: INXS." 2006: Alanis Morissette hosts an open house for the first All-Canadian edition of MTV's Cribs in her Ottawa home.
Sept 21 1967: Tyler Stewart, drummer for The Barenaked Ladies is born in Toronto. 1974: BTO release "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet," featuring Randy Bachman stuttering the vocals. 1984: Rush record the show in Toronto for the GRACE UNDER PRESSURE live video. 2000: The Barenaked Ladies and their hometown of Toronto settle an 8-year-old feud, when the band accepts the key to the city. In 1992, the group was denied permission to play a free show because the city's mayor said its name "objectified women." The mayor got a sense of humour after he was no longer in office. 2006: Terry Watkinson, ex-keyboardist for Max Webster and Klaatu, has an art exhibit open at Wellington Gallery in Aurora, ON.
Sept 22 1985: Neil Young is among the performers in Champagne, Illinois at the first Farm Aid concert, which would raise $10 million for beleaguered farmers and becomes an annual event. 1989: Neil Young releases FREEDOM, his hardest album in a decade. A blistering performance of the opening track, "Rockin' in the Free World," on 'Saturday Night Live' is regarded as one of that show's best performances. 1999: Shania Twain wins Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards in Nashville. 2006: Bruno Mambella, road manager for Kim Mitchell dies in hospital after a five vehicle pileup near Woodstock, ON. 2009: Anvil releases THIS IS THIRTEEN, their 13th album.
Sept 23 2003: Triumph releases their 1983 US Festival performance on DVD.
Sept 24 1994: DAY FOR NIGHT by The Tragically Hip becomes the fastest selling Canadian album in history. 2004: Rush's show in Frankfurt, Germany at The Festhalle is recorded for the R30 DVD.
Sept 25 1933: Ian Tyson is born in Victoria, BC 1982: Rush releases their SIGNALS lp. 1987: Corey Hart performs at the Montreal Forum. The show is filmed for a CBC special. 2003: Shania Twain kicks off her world tour in support of UP in Toronto. 2007: Blue Rodeo releaes the SMALL MIRACLES lp.
Sept 26 2009: The music of Judy Garland and Rosemary Clooney is featured at the Gateway Theatre in Richmond, BC, starring award winning Canadian singer/actress, and Richmond native, Jayme Armstrong, finalist on the hit CBC television show "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?" with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the star of the US National Touring Production of Camelot. The concert featured Sean Bayntun on piano.
Sept 27 1984: Avril Lavigne is born as Avril Ramona Lavigne in Belleville, Ont. 1993: Jazz saxaphone great Fraser MacPherson passes away in his Vancouver home at the age of 65.
Sept 28 1965: Dan Brisebois, author of CanConRox is born in Drayton Valley, Alberta. 1995: Alanis Morissette becomes the first Canadian woman to top Billboard's charts with her CD, JAGGED LITTLE PILL. 2004: EMOTIONAL RAIN, Lee Aaron's last 'rock' album from 1996 is released on CD. 2006: Clayton Hill is hired as Trooper's new drummer, replacing Frankie Baker.
Sept 29 1994: POWERLINE, Lee Aaron's greatest hits package is released. 1998: Aquarius Records re-releases IT'S A BUSINESS DOING PLEASURE by Helix on CD in the US. 2009: Jann Arden releases FREE, her tenth studio lp.
Sept 30 1953: Paul Harwood, one-time bassist for Mahogany Rush, is born in Montreal. 2007: The video for Hedley's latest single, "She's So Sorry," premieres on Much Music. 2009: Greg Ladanyi, president of Maple Jam Music Group and award winning producer of such artists as Don Henley, Fleetwood Mac, Toto, Jackson Browne, and Jeff Healey, dies in a Cyprus hospital after an on-stage accident that caused severe head trauma. |
