2003: Neil Young appears at a show in Hong Kong with the Rolling Stones to squash fears of a SARS epidemic. It's the Stones' first time there, and such high fees were charged for their appearances that it reportedly costs Hong Kong taxpayers over $100 million.

2009: Bonnyville. Albertas's Mike Plume releases his new cd 8:30 NEWFOUNDLAND during a show in his hometown.

1998: Rush releases DIFFERENT STAGES, a collection of live concerts over the years.

2000: Rush's Geddy Lee releases his first solo album, MY FAVOURITE HEADACHE.
2000: Rush's Alex Lifeson performs "Red Beans And Rice" with The Dexters at Capital Theatre in Toronto. The recording makes it to the compilation album SOUL IN THE CITY later that year.

2005: The original 1978 version of One Horse Blue reunited for a one-time event during the Canadian Finals Rodeo week at the Shaw Conference Centre, "Cowboy Cabaret" put on by the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce. Also on the bill were the band's heroes Poco and Pure Prairie League.

2008: Angels To Ashes and Social Code back up Finger 11 in Cold Lake for the opening of the Energy Centre.

2009: Blue Rodeo releases the double album THE THINGS WE LEFT BEHIND on cd and vinyl, and does a free show on the roof of the Diesel Playhouse in Toronto.

1945: Neil Young is born in Toronto, ON.

1966: Riots at Hollywood's Sunset Strip provide the inspiration for Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth." featuring Neil Young.

1975: Triumph make their concert debut at the Knob Hill Tavern in Toronto.

1989: Andrew Cash joins Melissa Etheridge, Bryan Adams, Joe Cocker, and several German bands, including The Scorpions for a free concert at the Berlin Wall, as citizens are allowed to move freely between East and West Germany for the first time since the beginning of the Cold War.

2007: Tom Cochrane is officially named an Honorary Colonel for 409 Tactical Squadron in a ceremony at CFB Cold Lake, Alberta. He's no stranger to the military, having made several stops at 4 Wing before, and participating in "Support the Troops" tours. His father was also a WWII pilot.

1996: Under the name 'Big Al Dexter,' Rush's Alex Lifeson sits in with The Dexters, the house band at Toronto's Orbit Room and records "Born Under A Bad Sign", "All Along The Watch Tower" and "For What It's Worth/White Rabbit". The recordings are sold through a Rush fanclub.

2005: Jim Gilmour of Saga releases his second solo lp, GREAT ESCAPE.
2005: A WORK IN PROGRESS, an indepth look at Jann Arden's life and career, is released on DVD.

1974: Gordon Lightfoot's sister Beverly accepts the Music Operators of America's award on his behalf for Pop Record of the Year on Jukeboxes in a ceremony in New York City for the album SUNDOWN.

2009: Hedley releases the album, THE SHOW MUST GO ON.

1972: Danny Whitten, a guitarist and songwriter with the rock band Crazy Horse, dies of a heroin overdose. Neil Young, who occasionally uses Crazy Horse as a backing band, records his 1975 masterpiece TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT as a tribute to him.

1989: Rush releases the PRESTO lp.

1997: Aldo Nova releases NOVA'S DREAM, a predominately electronic instrumental album.

2003: April Wine releases the BEST OF cd in Canada only.

2008: Avril Lavigne and Nelly Furtado were among the big winners during the 19th annual SOCAN Awards Gala in Toronto, taking five awards between them. Other winners included Chantal Kreviazuk, Finger 11, Shane Yellowbird and Tom Cochrane. The late Oscar Peterson was awarded a Special Achievement Award for contributions to Canada's music industry and/or musical heritage.

2009: Jann Arden is presented the "Vancouver Favourite" award and plaque at the Orpheum Theatre by the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame.

1974: A Foot In Cold Water's OR AROUND lp debuts at #20 on the Billboard charts.

1996: The Tragically Hip's show at Cobo Hall in Detroit is taped and becomes the LIVE BETWEEN US album.

2002: Rush perform in front of 40,000 fanatics in Rio De Janeiro. The show is filmed for the RUSH IN RIO DVD/CD.

2004: Trooper re-releases TWO FOR THE SHOW on CD through MCA in the US.
2004: Stampeders release another 'best of' – appropriately entitled BEST OF THE STAMPEDERS on UniDisc.

2009: Pacemaker releases FIRST SPARKS - THE ANTHOLOGY, a best of collection of The Staccatos/5 Man Electrical Band.
2009: "The Big Story of Small Potatoes - The Niagara Rock Music History 1964 to 1974" is released on DVD, a documentary on the area's music history.

1976: The Band perform their final concert at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, which turns into a documentary and soundtrack entitled THE LAST WALTZ. On the guest list performing is everyone who is anyone and is directed by Martin Scorcese.

2007: The Trews release "Hold Me In Your Arms" online and to the radio stations, prior to the release of the album NO TIME FOR LATER. The song was debuted at the Grey Cup half time show.

1933: Robert Goulet, who later moved to Edmonton where the acting and singing bugs first bit him, is born in Massacheussetts.

1993: Steppenwolf drummer Jerry Edmonton is killed in a car crash, not far from his Santa Barbara, California home at the age of 47.
